SkinWave

The SkinWave facial is a relaxing facial that clarifies & hydrates the skin. Solutions are infused deep into the skin while gentle extraction removes impurities. Additionally Skinwave facials also include micro-current, lymphatic massage, LED therapy to de-puff, tighten, tone and target along concerns.

Dermaplaning Facial

The Dermaplaning Facial is an exfoliating facial that removes dead skin cells & peach fuzz. It's safe for all skin types and improves the appearance of acne scars, texture, pore size & fine lines. Dermaplaning leaves you with a brighter complexion, helps with the absorption of skincare products & smoother make up application. This facial can be done every 4-6 weeks.

Facials in Richland, WA

Healthy-looking skin begins with a treatment selected for your actual skin type and concerns. Modern Medical Spa offers customized facials in Richland, Washington, for patients throughout Kennewick, Pasco, West Richland, and the Tri-Cities. Our facial options include SkinWave aqua-delivery treatments and dermaplaning facials designed to cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate, and refresh the skin without the downtime associated with more intensive procedures.

Facials are one part of our broader approach to skin treatments in Richland. When a facial alone is unlikely to address a concern adequately, we can discuss professional skincare, microneedling, laser treatments, or a combination plan.

Concerns Our Facials Can Address

Professional facials may be helpful for dullness, dryness, rough texture, mild congestion, visible blackheads, excess surface oil, enlarged-looking pores, uneven tone, and skin that needs routine maintenance. Dermaplaning may also improve the immediate appearance and feel of the skin by removing accumulated dead surface cells and fine vellus hair, commonly called peach fuzz.

Facials can improve surface hydration, smoothness, and brightness, but they do not replace medical evaluation or prescription treatment for severe or cystic acne, persistent rashes, skin infections, changing moles, or suspicious skin lesions. Patients who need help maintaining results between treatments may also benefit from a customized medical-grade skincare regimen.

SkinWave Aqua Facial

SkinWave is a multidimensional facial system developed by Cartessa Aesthetics. It combines aqua delivery, customizable treatment solutions, hydrogen-enriched water, and gentle suction to cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate, and remove surface impurities. Depending on the selected protocol, SkinWave may also incorporate LED exposure, an electroporation step, or a gentle lymphatic-style massage handpiece.

Treatment solutions are selected according to your skin type and goals. A hydration-focused treatment may be appropriate for dry or tight-feeling skin, while an exfoliating or decongesting protocol may be preferred for dullness, oiliness, blackheads, or clogged pores. The goal is refreshed, balanced skin without aggressive resurfacing or prolonged recovery.

SkinWave can be used as a stand-alone maintenance facial or as one part of a longer-term skin-health plan. Patients with acne scars, persistent texture irregularities, or concerns that extend beneath the skin’s surface may receive greater benefit from SkinPen microneedling or another collagen-supporting treatment.

Dermaplaning Facial

Dermaplaning is a controlled physical-exfoliation treatment performed with a sterile professional blade. The blade is carefully passed across the skin to remove dead surface cells and fine vellus hair. This can leave the skin feeling smoother and may improve the appearance of dullness, rough texture, and uneven makeup application.

Dermaplaning does not cause facial hair to grow back thicker, darker, or faster. The treatment cuts fine hair at the surface and does not alter the hair follicle. As the hair naturally returns, it generally retains its previous color and thickness.

A dermaplaning facial may be performed alone or combined with selected hydrating and soothing products when appropriate. It should not be performed over active inflammatory acne, open wounds, infected skin, sunburn, or significantly irritated skin.

Patients primarily concerned about unwanted coarse or dark facial hair may be better candidates for Clarity II laser hair removal. Dermaplaning temporarily removes fine surface hair, while laser hair removal targets pigmented hair follicles for longer-term hair reduction.

Who Is an Appropriate Candidate?

SkinWave and dermaplaning are generally best suited for patients seeking a noninvasive treatment for hydration, gentle exfoliation, congestion, roughness, or routine skin maintenance. They can also be useful before an event when a patient wants the skin to look smoother and more refreshed without significant downtime.

Your treatment may need to be postponed or modified if you have active cold sores, open lesions, a skin infection, significant sunburn, uncontrolled eczema or psoriasis, an active rosacea flare, inflammatory or cystic acne, a recent aggressive peel or laser procedure, or a known allergy to a proposed treatment ingredient.

Patients with a history of abnormal scarring, bleeding disorders, anticoagulant use, impaired healing, or recent isotretinoin therapy should discuss these issues before dermaplaning. Please also tell us if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, using prescription acne medication, or applying retinoids, exfoliating acids, benzoyl peroxide, or other potentially irritating products.

Pregnancy does not necessarily prevent every facial, but certain products and ingredients may need to be avoided or substituted.

What Happens During a Facial?

Your appointment begins with a review of your skin concerns, sensitivities, current skincare products, recent procedures, medications, and treatment goals. The skin is then cleansed and examined so that the appropriate facial and treatment intensity can be selected.

A SkinWave facial typically includes aqua delivery, gentle exfoliation, hydration, and suction-assisted removal of surface debris. Additional SkinWave steps may be selected according to the treatment plan. During dermaplaning, the provider holds the skin carefully and uses controlled strokes with a sterile blade to remove dead surface cells and fine facial hair.

Treatment intensity is individualized. More aggressive exfoliation is not always better, particularly for sensitive, dry, acne-prone, or pigment-prone skin. If we identify concerns such as deeper acne scars, skin laxity, or more established texture changes, we may recommend VirtueRF microneedling instead of, or in addition to, routine facials.

When Will I Notice Results?

Many patients notice smoother texture, improved hydration, and a fresher appearance immediately after a SkinWave or dermaplaning facial. The skin may continue to feel softer and look more refreshed over the following several days.

These improvements are cosmetic and temporary. Their duration depends on skin type, sun exposure, home skincare, environmental conditions, hormonal influences, and the specific concerns being treated. Facials support ongoing skin maintenance but cannot permanently stop oil production, pore congestion, acne, pigment formation, or the natural aging process.

Facials can soften the appearance of superficial dryness-related lines, but they do not relax facial muscles or replace lost facial volume. Patients whose primary concerns are expression lines may benefit from learning about Botox and Xeomin, while patients concerned about volume loss or facial contour may wish to explore dermal fillers.

How Often Should I Have a Facial?

A single treatment may be helpful before an event or whenever the skin needs additional hydration and exfoliation. For ongoing maintenance, many patients schedule a facial approximately every four to six weeks. More frequent treatment is not appropriate for everyone and may cause excessive dryness or irritation.

Patients with persistent congestion, acne marks, discoloration, or more advanced texture concerns may need a broader treatment plan rather than facials alone. Depending on the concern, we may discuss medical-grade skincare, chemical peels, SkinPen microneedling, VirtueRF microneedling, or laser skin treatments.

Downtime and Aftercare

Most patients return to their usual activities after a facial. Temporary redness, tightness, sensitivity, dryness, or mild flaking can occur, particularly following dermaplaning or an exfoliating treatment. These effects are generally mild and improve with appropriate skincare.

After treatment, use a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Avoid excessive sun exposure and do not pick, scrub, or exfoliate the treated skin. Depending on the intensity of your facial, you may be advised to temporarily avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, abrasive scrubs, waxing, excessive heat, saunas, and strenuous exercise.

Consistent daily skincare and sun protection can help preserve the benefits of a professional facial. Our team can recommend products that complement your treatment without unnecessarily irritating or over-exfoliating your skin.

Risks and Contraindications

Although facials are generally well tolerated, potential reactions include redness, irritation, dryness, temporary sensitivity, breakouts, allergic reaction, and changes in pigmentation. Dermaplaning also carries a small risk of superficial abrasion, nicking, infection, or scarring.

Treatment should be delayed when the skin barrier is significantly disrupted or when an active infection, inflammatory eruption, or unexplained lesion is present. Please provide an accurate medical history and product list so we can select an appropriate protocol.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which facial is best for my skin?

The best option depends on whether your primary concern is dryness, dullness, rough texture, congestion, visible blackheads, oiliness, sensitivity, or unwanted facial hair. We evaluate your skin and treatment history before recommending SkinWave, dermaplaning, or another service.

Is SkinWave the same as HydraFacial?

No. SkinWave and HydraFacial are different proprietary facial systems. Modern Medical Spa uses the SkinWave platform, which combines aqua

delivery, customizable solutions, hydrogen-enriched water, gentle suction, and additional handpiece options.

Can a facial remove blackheads?

Gentle exfoliation and suction-assisted extraction may reduce visible blackheads and pore congestion. However, blackheads can return, particularly when excess oil, dead skin accumulation, hormonal factors, or unsuitable skincare products continue to contribute to clogged pores.

Does dermaplaning make facial hair grow back thicker?

No. Dermaplaning removes fine hair at the surface and does not change the follicle. The hair does not become biologically thicker or darker because it was dermaplaned.

Is there downtime after a facial?

Most patients have little or no functional downtime. Mild redness, tightness, sensitivity, or flaking may occur, especially after dermaplaning or exfoliation. Sunscreen and gentle skincare are important afterward.

How often should I schedule a facial?

Many patients schedule maintenance treatments every four to six weeks. The ideal interval depends on skin sensitivity, the type of facial, home skincare, and whether other procedures are being incorporated into the treatment plan.

Can teenagers receive facials?

Facials may be considered for younger patients with congestion, blackheads, oiliness, or age-appropriate skincare concerns. Treatment must be selected carefully, and a parent or legal guardian should contact Modern Medical Spa regarding consultation and consent requirements.

Can I receive a facial if I have acne?

A gentle facial may help selected patients with blackheads, whiteheads, or mild congestion. Dermaplaning is generally avoided over active inflammatory, pustular, or cystic acne. Moderate or severe acne may require medical evaluation and a broader treatment plan.

Can facials be combined with other treatments?

Yes, but appropriate spacing is important. Facials may be incorporated into a plan that includes medical-grade skincare, chemical peels, SkinPen microneedling, VirtueRF microneedling, or laser skin treatments. Your provider will recommend timing that reduces unnecessary irritation and allows the skin to recover between procedures.
